10iss, Oxaca, Mexico :: Call for Entry and Registration Now Open

We’re happy to announce that the registrations and select call for entry are now open for the 10th International Shibori Symposium at Oaxaca, Mexico!

10iss_PosterThe 2016 International Shibori Symposium will be co-chaired by Alejandro de Avila Blomberg – Director, Jardín Etnobotánico de Oaxaca and President of World Shibori Network (WSN), Yoshiko I. Wada. The theme of the symposium is Shibori, Ikat, and Sustainability: Land, Culture, and People / Jaspe, shibori y sostenibilidad: un acercamiento a la tierra, la cultura y la gente a partir de los teñidos de reserva.”

The main symposium is a six-day program between Nov 15 – 20, 2016 in Oaxaca that includes a plenary session with keynote performances; presentation of scholarly papers; international exhibitions; short seminars; discussion forums; intensive workshops; artisan demonstrations and a Mexican Artisan craft fair.

The 10iss will focus on the proposed topics:

  • Compression Resist – Ikat / Jaspe y rebozo & Shibori / Amaras
  • Cotton, Silk & Wool
  • Natural Dye and Plants
  • Indigenous Textile Traditions
  • Contemporary Art, Design and Fashion
  • Technology and Industry

  • Contemporary Art of Shibori and Ikat ( ends 15 March 2016 ) – Submit Now
  • Wearable Art of Shibori ( 15 March 2016 ) – Submit Now
