SFS Events: Lanii Pop up Shop and Talk

Anna Michelle Ruelas from Oaxaca, Mexico will discuss local Mexican craftsmanship and artisanal processes at Slow Fiber Studios, this January.

Where: 696 Hilldale Ave, Berkeley, California

When: 23 January

Timing: 1o:00 – 17:00

Registration for the Talk: 10 USD – WSN members | 15 USD – Non members

Lanii started as a collaboration among three friends (Sara Lopez, Sofia Sampayo, and Anna Michelle) who share a desire to develop and create products that combine art and functionality. It’s a small enterprise that focuses on promoting innovative local handcrafts of Oaxaca and other regions of Mexico.

Lanii’s objective is to inspire new perspectives on handcrafts, making them contemporary without diminishing the traditional artistic processes by which they are made. The crafts include embroidery, basket-weaving, fine jewelry, ceramic, rugs, black and red clay, and much more.

After Anna Michelle’s talk, WSN President Yoshiko Iwamoto Wada will give a  preview of the program for the 10th International Shibori Symposium planned for November 2016, Oaxaca, Mexico.
