Celebrating the visual languages of PEOPLE, COMMUNITY, CULTURE, and ENVIRONMENT through the global practice of resist-dye traditions and innovations, keeping in mind authenticity, reciprocity, and networking.
Slow Fiber Studios is excited to open registration for its travel program to India this March, with founder Yoshiko I. Wada, who will guide participants across the continent from the bustling cities in the northwest to the tranquil mountains of the south. Participate in natural dye workshops, private museum tours, and absorb the diverse traditions, cultures and histories of India.
Start in northwestern India, first explore majestic India’s capitals of New and Old Delhi, and visit designers and artisans’ studios for block printing, Indian shibori, and fine couture. Admire the Maharaja’s palaces, Calico Museum of Textiles, and Gandhi Ashram in the states of Rajasthan and Gujarat. Fly down deep in the south on the Malabar coast, explore the backwaters of Kerala, visit the third Kochi-Muziris Art Biennale, and traverse the green mountains of the Western Ghats participating in a natural dye workshop in Munnar and visiting an organic cotton farm and handloom weaving center in Pollachi.
