WSN Member Yosi Anaya: Solo Exhibition in Cork, Ireland

Continuity Reinscribed – Organized by the Museo del Imaginario

Wandesford Quays Gallery

Hours: Sunday – Tuesday: Closed / Wednesday – Saturday: 10am – 6pm

Up until March 28th

This exhibition was organized by the Museo del Imaginario (Imaginary Museum), initiated in 2006, with a mission to explore various issues regarding indigenous textiles through museum practices.

The exhibition featuring works by Yosi Anaya, focuses on the notion of the “historic gaze toward Mesoamerican indigenous women,” represented by over 13 works by various artists, exploring how textile making is the preservation of beliefs, and how textiles have been shrouded as commodities while continuously holding deeper meaning.

“Their textile making has served to give continuity to beliefs, despite the fact that they, the makers, have been constant victims of aggression over the centuries, for which they have hidden themselves in the shadows of their hearths, and carried on.”

This exhibition was organized in conjunction with the MAKE 2 Symposium, where Ms. Anaya was Keynote Speaker. Hosted by the Cork Institute of Technology.
